Faculty bioGRAPHIES
Julie M. Abijanac is
a full time instructor in CCAD’s BFA degree program. Ms. Abijanac
has exhibited in Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania and New York City.
She has been featured in publications including, The New Art Examiner,
The Three Rivers Visual Arts Exhibition Catalog, The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette,
The Columbus Dispatch, and The Ann Arbor News. She received her BFA
in fine art from CCAD and an MFA in painting from Cranbrook Academy
of Art.
Abigail Algueseva works
in mixed media creating artist’s books, collage, sculpture,
and installation. She has taught a variety of age groups in the Midwest,
North Carolina and La Paz, Bolivia. She received her MFA from the
University of Wisconsin-Madison and has exhibited throughout the
Midwest and in North Carolina.
Ron Anderson teaches
in CCAD’s BFA degree program and for the college’s Saturday
Morning Art Classes. He was educated at The Ohio State University
and at Kent State University majoring in graphic design and illustration.
Mr. Anderson exhibits his original oil paintings locally and in New
York City including the annual National Black Fine Art show. He has
developed a recognizable style of distinctive artwork and continues
to devote time to his oil paintings. He has been the recipient of
many awards for his artwork, and his commissions have included artwork
for the Absolut Vodka Corporation and for the Ohio Statehouse.
Greg Bain received
his BFA from Columbus College of Art & Design with a major in
illustration. Mr. Bain works with high school and college students
and is proficient in both hand and computer techniques.
Michelle Baker has
extensive experience in the advertising world and is currently the
creative director of Baker Creative. Ms. Baker has taught a number
of courses at Columbus State Community College in the multi-media
department. She earned her BFA at CCAD.
Tamie
Beldue received
a BFA from CCAD in fine arts with an emphasis on lithography and
drawing. She received her MFA from the University of Cincinnati.
Ms. Beldue has an extensive exhibition record both regionally and
nationally. An experienced teacher on both the high school and college
levels, Ms. Beldue is also known for her work with art educators.
Adam Brouillette received
a BFA from CCAD in Fine Arts, and has taught in the Saturday Morning
Art Classes program since 2000. He has been included in local exhibitions
and donated artwork to the popular Art for Life fundraiser for the
Columbus AIDS Task Force.
David Burghy teaches
in CCAD's BFA degree program. He co-authored Structural Drawing and
Applications 2nd ed. in 1988. Mr. Burghy specializes in woodworking.
His clients include Huntington Bank, Wendy’s Corp., and Dublin
Arts Council. He has a BFA in industrial design from CCAD.
Steven Bush is the
owner of smARTworks. Mr. Bush has work included in both private and
corporate collections. He has exhibited both nationally and internationally;
Mr. Bush attended the Pennsylvania Institute of Art before receiving
a BFA from CCAD.
Jennifer Deafenbaugh teaches
Digital Design to sixth graders in CCAD’s Saturday Morning
Art Classes. She has worked as a Presentation Graphics Specialist
at Mills James Productions, specializing in print, interactive and
motion graphic design. Jennifer is an alumnus of Columbus College
of Art & Design.
Steve Elbert is
a registered architect with 25 years experience in the field and
a professional, published photographer. He has a master’s of
architecture from the Graduate School of Design of North Carolina
University and a bachelor’s of science from the University
of Florida.
Benjamin Eisenmann earned
his BFA in Illustration from Columbus College of Art & Design.
He currently works as a professional illustrator and spends his Saturday
mornings teaching Digital Design to high school students.
Sarah Fairchild received
a BFA from CCAD and an Ohio Certification of Art Education from Ohio
Dominican University. Ms. Fairchild has exhibited her paintings throughout
Ohio and won numerous awards.
Thomas Faist has
been involved with technology in art and design since the infancy
of desktop publishing, and has taught, developed training materials,
and written books on electronic publishing techniques. He started
at CCAD in 1990 and for 10 years developed curriculum, taught classes,
hired instructors, installed networks, and maintained computer systems
in the developing Electronic Publishing curriculum. Mr. Faist now
serves as the director of information technology for the college
and teaches an occasional class. He received a BS degree in Industrial
Design from The Ohio State University.
Abigail Fisher teaches
beginning drawing classes and in CCAD’s renowned Saturday Morning
Art Classes. She received a BFA from CCAD and has experience teaching
all age levels.
Mindy Good has
worked with interactive media, video, animation, marketing, and
design over the past five years. Her personal art combines motion
graphics with digital photography and video to inform and entertain.
As an adjunct faculty member in Columbus State Community College’s multimedia
program, she enjoys teaching others how to embrace art and technology
as a way to express themselves. Ms. Good has worked with middle-school
and high-school students in CCAD’s Creative Summer Workshops
and Saturday Morning Art Classes to introduce young minds to digital
art and animation. Ms. Good is a graduate of Columbus State Community
College and CCAD.
Estella Hickman teaches
illustration in CCAD’s BFA degree program. She has held senior
positions with WSYX-TV 6 and School Book Fairs Publishing. From her
freelance studio, Scarlet Studios, Ms. Hickman has illustrated more
than 40 children’s books, including The Velveteen Rabbit,
On Sunday I Lost My Cat, and Peter Rabbit, and most
recently Awful Waffles and Big Bad Rex for Seedling
Publications. Ms. Hickman has a BFA from CCAD and completed her course
of study for her masters of illustration at Syracuse University in
2000. She is presently working for Gooseberry Patch Inc., a gift
catalog company in Delaware, Ohio.
Abigail Hinders teaches
in beginning drawing classes and in CCAD’s renowned Saturday
Morning Art Classes. She received a BFA from CCAD and has experience
teaching all age levels.
Michael Houghton has
been working in photography in Central Ohio for nearly 30 years.
His studio, STUDIOHIO, has been serving the interior and architectural
design industry as well as servicing advertising and corporate worlds
since 1983. His work has been published in numerous design magazines
nationally. Mr. Houghton studied Fine Art at Indiana University with
an emphasis on printmaking, lithography, and oil painting.
Brooke Hunter-Lombardi is
CCAD's educator outreach coordinator. She has exhibited work in numerous
juried, group, and solo exhibitions throughout Ohio, and her work
is in many private collections throughout the United States. She
has a BFA in advertising & graphic design from CCAD.
Phil
Jackson’s work
has been shown nationally and included in many private collections.
In 2001 he received a fellowship given by the internationally juried
Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation. He holds an MFA from Bowling Green
State University and a BFA from CCAD.
David Jewell graduated
from Columbus College of Art & Design with a BFA in painting.
After spending time in Florence, Italy through Studio Art Center
International, he went on to earn a MFA in painting from Bowling
Green State University.
Kat Klos works professionally
as a graphic designer and has taught photography and computer graphics
at both the University of Maryland and Sidwell Friends School in
Washington, DC. She has exhibited her photography in invitational
and juried exhibitions regionally (Mid-Atlantic) as well as nationally.
Ms. Klos received a BA in graphic design and an MFA in photography
and graphic design from the University of Maryland.
John Kortlander teaches
painting, drawing, and watercolor in CCAD’s BFA degree program.
His work has been exhibited in more than 50 juried, invitational,
and gallery exhibits. Prior to joining the CCAD faculty, he taught
at the Mercersburg Academy, where he received the Johnson Foundation
Teacher of the Year Award and the Skidmore College Fellowship for
outstanding artists/teachers. He also was the subject of The
Documentary Gallery, produced for PBS. He received a BFA in
Art History from Ohio University and an MFA in Painting from the
University of Colorado.
Gordon Lee teaches
painting, drawing, and watercolor in CCAD’s BFA degree program.
He has exhibited extensively around the world, participating in
solo and group shows in Canada, the U.S., Hong Kong, Taiwan, China,
and Germany. He was a recipient of a Ford Foundation Grant and
served as the chair of the Hong Kong Visual Arts Society in 1986-7.
Before returning to CCAD in 1987, he was a tenured lecturer at
the Swire School of Design, Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Mr.
Lee earned a BFA in studio art from Concordia University in Montreal,
Canada and an MFA in painting from the Cranbrook Academy of Art.
In 2002, he was awarded an individual artists fellowship by the
Greater Columbus Arts Council.
Michael McAteer graduated
from Columbus College of Art & Design in the fall of 2001. He
has worked as an Art Director for multiple advertising agencies and
graphic design studios, working on major marketing campaigns for
several corporate companies, specializing in Corporate Identity,
Retail Design, Packaging and Catalogue Design. Michael currently
works for the Ohio Attorney Generals Office as Director of Graphic
Design.
Kathy McGhee,
fine arts instructor, teaches printmaking (lithography, relief, intaglio,
and serigraphy) and drawing. She has a BS in plant biology, a BFA
in drawing and painting, and an MFA in printmaking from the Ohio
State University.
Neils Neilson received
a BFA from CCAD in painting in 2004. He currently teaches high school
drawing in the Saturday Morning Art Classes program. Mr. Neilson’s
paintings can be viewed in many upcoming Columbus gallery shows.
Douglas Norman teaches
painting and drawing in CCAD’s BFA program. He earned a BA
from California State University San Diego and an MFA from the Claremont
Graduate School and University Center. He has exhibited his works
in invitational and juried exhibitions regionally as well as nationally.
Danielle Norton received
an MFA from the University of Notre Dame and a BFA from CCAD. Ms.
Norton has exhibited both locally and nationally and has taught at
Otterbein College as well as CCAD.
Djahangir Pirasteh teaches
drawing, painting, watercolor, and anatomy in CCAD’s BFA degree
program. Mr. Pirasteh has exhibited his work in numerous solo and
group shows in the U.S. and internationally, including the annual
conference of the Center for Iranian Research and Analysis; Villanova
University (which received international mention), and St. Cloud
State University in Minnesota (which received an honorable award
and earned him membership to the President’s Club). He has
also been commissioned by and donated to various private and public
institutions, and has served as a judge for numerous art competitions.
He holds AA, BA, and MA degrees from St. Cloud State University in
Minnesota and an MFA from the University of Wisconsin.
Neil Riley teaches
painting and drawing in CCAD’s BFA degree program. Mr. Riley
received a BFA from the Maryland Institute of Art and an MFA from
Boston University. His awards include a Fullbright Fellowship to
Italy and a residency at the Klots Chateau in Rochefort-en-Tere,
France.
Kristine Schramer teaches
painting, drawing, and anatomy in CCAD’s BFA degree program.
She earned her BA as a Monroe Scholar at the College of William and
Mary and studied at the New York Academy of Figurative Art, the Art
Students League of New York, and the Ecole Albert Defois in France
before earning her MFA from Indiana University. Her paintings and
drawings have won awards in exhibitions across the Midwest and Southern
U.S. and are included in the collections of the College of William
and Mary and the City of Bloomington, Indiana. Ms. Schramer was awarded
a travel grant from the Institute of International Education to study
in Florence, Italy, and in 2000 she received a grant award from the
National Society of Arts and Letters.
Mary Stephenson,
adjunct faculty, teaches Digital Design and Typography to daytime
Columbus College of Art & Design students, and web design to
Continuing Ed and Saturday Morning students. She earned a BFA from
CCAD in Advertising and Graphic design with a minor in Illustration.
Mrs. Stephenson has experience in both graphic and web design, and
currently works as an artist for her company, A’Corns Graphics
and Photography.
Stephanie Sypsa has
artwork in numerous national, international, private and corporate
collections. Her work demonstrates methods of documentation through
printmaking and antique photography. Ms. Sypsa works for the Ohio
Arts Council in the Riffe Gallery, at the Columbus Museum of Art,
and is a current Saturday Morning Art Classes instructor at CCAD.
She completed her BFA from CCAD in 2004.
Kaname Takada teaches
ceramics in CCAD’s BFA degree program and is the creator of
the ceramic mural on the Canzani Center. His work is represented
in a number of collections, including those of the Columbus Metropolitan
Library, Zanesville Art Center, Lamar Dodd Art Center, and Ohio Craft
Museum. He has shown his award-winning work in six international
exhibitions in France, New Zealand, Japan, and the U.S., 23 solo
and group exhibitions, more than 30 national exhibitions, and numerous
regional exhibitions. Mr. Takada has an MFA in ceramics from the
University of Notre Dame.
Ronald Tardino,
visual communications professor, is a freelance illustrator and painter
whose clients include Hills Corp., the Columbus Bar Association,
and the Ohio Historical Museum and Ohio Village. He also has worked
as a courtroom sketch artist. Mr. Tardino received a BFA in illustration
from CCAD.
Aniket Vardhan teaches
three-dimensional modeling and CAD-related courses in CCAD’s
BFA program. He has a bachelor’s degree in architecture from
the School of Planning and Architecture, Delhi, and an MFA in industrial
design from Rochester Institute of Technology. He has worked on projects
ranging from architecture and interior design to industrial products,
transport design, and guitars.
Ernest Viveiros teaches
anatomy and structure, painting, and figure drawing in CCAD’s
BFA degree program. His work has appeared in group and solo exhibitions
including exhibitions at the Butler Institute of American Art and
the Chicago International Art Expo. He received a BFA from Southwestern
Massachusetts University and an MFA from Southern Illinois University,
where he taught drawing and design.
Dorenda Watson is
a wildlife artist working in oil paints in a realistic style. A native
of Ohio, her paintings are in public and private collections throughout
the United States as well as published internationally in the magazines
Wildlife Art and North Light Books. Ms. Watson received a BFA in
Illustration from CCAD.
Clay White teaches
courses in Photoshop and advanced creative imaging in CCAD’s
BFA degree program. He has been a commercial photographer for 30
years and has been involved with the development and teaching of
electronic-imaging technologies since their inception. He enjoys
a national reputation in this field through various speaking engagements
and his studio’s digital and conventional work. Mr. White received
his AAS in Electronics from DeVry Institute of Technology and a BS
in Photography from Rochester Institute of Technology.
