Saturday Morning Art Classes:
Course summary: High School
Portfolio Development:
High School students, who may
have an interest in applying to a college of art and design or to a program
of art within a university, are strongly advised to enroll in the portfolio
course. While emphasis is placed on observational drawing and the requisite
skills and techniques needed for realistic representation of the subject
matter, students are encouraged to develop their own voice while creating
dynamic pieces for the portfolio. Information regarding exhibitions,
college entrance requirements, and strategies for the portfolio are provided.
Parents will be included in informational sessions about the importance
of the portfolio and the admissions process.
10th Grade Drawing:
Students develop drawing skills through the practice
of perspective, correct proportions, value studies, and measured drawing.
Students will work from still lifes and models while using a variety
of media. This is an excellent class for those students who wish to boast
their drawing ability.

Silkscreen
Basic techniques of silkscreen printing are introduced. Students will
explore a variety of methods used in the CCAD printmaking labs beginning
with concept drawings to an edition of prints.
Digital Media and Web Design
Students will spend 5 weeks learning digital illustration Photoshop
and 5 weeks in web design. This course uses Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver
software, all provided in CCAD's Mac Labs. Basic design tenets will be
discussed and applied to projects in order to guide students to completion
of their own illustrations and Web site. Prior basic computer skills
and knowledge is recommended but not required to register for this course.
Intaglio
Beginning with concept drawings, students will progress through the
process of intaglio printing; transferring images to a metal plate, etching,
use of the printing press and pulling an edition of prints. Basic procedures,
techniques, and aesthetics of metal printmaking are addressed.
11th / 12th Grade Drawing
Students concentrate on increasing skills used to realistically portray
what they see. Drawing techniques include measured drawing, value structure,
proper proportions, and perspective. Students will work from still lifes,
models, and interior spaces.
11th / 12th Grade Oil Painting
Basic to advanced painting techniques including color mixing, washes,
brushstrokes, and proper paint handling will be addressed. Students will
spend extended time on paintings, incorporating good composition, color
theory, and strong underlying drawing.

In addition to morning courses we offer several afternoon options for
high school students including Introduction to Fashion Design and Figure
Drawing.
Figure Drawing
Focus on drawing issues as they relate to working from the nude model. Areas of special importance will be proportions in relationship to boney landmarks, dynamics of movement through gesture drawing, likeness through portrait studies, and light and form. Extended poses will predominate, providing opportunities for portfolio enhancement.
Fashion Design
High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors are encouraged to register for this exciting new workshop offering on Saturday afternoons. Students will explore the many aspects of the fashion design world in this quick paced introductory course. Different areas of fashion will be the focus each week including color trends, fashion illustration and layout, construction of garments, fibers and fabric, dyeing and finishing, flat sketches, and merchandising. Lecture and activities will lead to a basic understanding of these fundamentals. The workshop meets for five weeks and is repeatable. This workshop is taught by Christina Pucci, a graduate of CCAD, currently working in the fashion design field.
